Starting Reception — particularly within London’s leading independent schools — is a significant milestone.

Our Summer School Readiness Programme has been carefully designed for 4-year-olds who would benefit from thoughtful preparation before entering Reception, including those preparing for 4+ assessments.

In a calm, structured and nurturing environment, we help children develop the academic foundations, confidence and learning behaviours that allow them to thrive from the very beginning.

This is not a casual holiday club.

It is a carefully structured 10-week enrichment course (1 hour per week), limited to no more than eight children with two teachers, ensuring individual attention within a focused group setting.

Each session develops key areas essential for Reception and early independent school expectations:

Pencil control, hand strength, cutting precision and early writing fluency.

✨ Early Mathematical Reasoning

Number recognition, counting fluency, pattern awareness and gentle problem-solving.

✨ Early Literacy & Phonics Awareness

Listening skills, sound recognition, vocabulary development and confident verbal expression.

✨ Cognitive & Learning Behaviours

Focus, resilience, independence, turn-taking and structured task completion.

✨ Classroom Confidence

Practising sitting within a group, responding to teacher instruction and working independently with quiet concentration.

For families preparing for selective Reception entry, we subtly incorporate the types of thinking skills commonly observed in 4+ assessments:

• Verbal reasoning through discussion and storytelling

• Listening comprehension

• Early pattern recognition

• Sequencing and memory skills

• Clear communication and confidence when responding to questions

All delivered in an age-appropriate, pressure-free manner.

Children leave each session feeling capable — not coached.

Located in Notting Hill, we understand the expectations of local independent schools and the importance of a strong start.

Our goal is not acceleration, but refinement — ensuring children walk into Reception feeling secure, confident and ready to engage.

Is this a 4+ preparation course?

This programme supports the foundational skills assessed in many 4+ processes, including listening, early reasoning, communication and classroom confidence.

While we do not conduct formal mock assessments, sessions gently nurture the cognitive and behavioural skills that underpin successful 4+ readiness.

Is the programme academic?

The sessions are structured and purposeful, but always age-appropriate. We believe strong foundations and confidence are far more important at this stage than formal testing.
